![]() In fact, I think when using that extreme accuracy on a standard guitar, it might be impossible to have all the notes be exactly in tune, it can only be intonated roughly due to the evenness of the fret spacing. Whether it's the number one or not though, it's undoubtedly a high level professional tuner used by many top luthiers and, again, I think offers an unnecessary level of accuracy for guitar players. I could well be wrong though, this is the first time I've seen anyone saying an alternative brand could be the standard. but I've never heard any other brand be touted as like that. I've heard the Peterson mentioned in that role many times and by top guys and seen it being used in videos etc. I was in a band that toured a Hohner Clavinet in the mid seventies & the only way we coped when touring was courtesy of a superstar keyboard player who took pity on us and lent us a Conn for the duration of whatever tour we weer on at the time.įrom what little I remember, back then I think you either had to be a superstar or one of Trump Senior`s kids to be able to afford one!! Certainly was back in the 70s when they and Petersons were the only practical reliable electronic tuners around. Would hate to go without my clip-on tuner though - amazed me at first that it tuned as accurately as any pedal or software I've used, even in a loud room where other instruments are playing full blast. I don't think that kind of microscopic accuracy is really necessary for anyone - I'd imagine that when you play the same chord/note twice, the difference in pressure you fret the string with probably makes a bigger difference in the pitch of that note than the level of accuracy that a good "normal" tuner can't give you. The best luthiers and repairmen use them. Peterson are _the_ name in top of the range professional strobe tuners (hardware). I'm not gonna PAY much for a 32bit anything at this point. But Ive got other things higher on my budget list right now.Įdit: Well the Peterson desktop version is still 32 bit and they want too much money for it. I generally don't plug in ANYTHING between my guitar and the pre, even IF it says TRUE BYPASS. As for polytune last I looked they wanted 100 clams. Peterson? That's one I'm not familiar with. If I was going to pay for a plugin tuner it would be the Peterson. If you don't already have a clip-on tuner, it's very much worth it - it's very accurate and comes with the plugin. It is what I use any time I want to tune in the box though but I got it free with the Polytune Clip (which is a superb clip-on tuner and switches between guitar and bass modes, as does the plugin). It's definitely not worth paying for the plugin, I didn't even know it could be bought. The fact it can tune all the strings at the same time blew my mind but I don't actually use the polyphonic feature at all. Does it play my parts for me to? It's polyphonic, I get it, but. I will also check out Polytune.Įdit: $50 for a vst tuner (Polytune)? Seems a bit over-the-top. But quick research revealed a 64 bit version available now so I will install that. I think it got passed over on this build because I was kind of trying to avoid anything 32 bit. Maybe there was a weird gain issue or something. But sometimes it's just quicker for me to keep it in the box.Īs for ReaTune, for some reason it was not being very responsive for me, especially if I drop-tuned or used a 6 string bass. The lowest strings will end up a lot higher and the top string flatter than violinists and cellists are used to and it will entirely mess up their pitch. Thanks for the replies. Peterson has presets for perfect fifth tuning which comes out the way we stringplayers are used to have our instruments tuned. At least 18 eBay offers for CONN tuners 50S CONN STROBO TUNER ST-4 ANALOG STROBE TUNER 50.00 Vintage Conn Strobe Tuner 030323 299.99. ironically it seems easier with people not familliar with tuners at all.Īs for temperaments, you would benefit greatly from the specific guitar temperaments as it will sound much better ebass and guitar than standard temperament.Ī guitar tuned to equal temperament is never going to sound quite in tune. A lot of players find the strobes very confusing as they are used to a needle type of reference.Īt this point I cannot stand any non strobe readouts, but many a gifted colleague has scratched his/her hair over the readout.
